Using the Jobshout Styled Text Editor

You use the Editor when you enter the description of your job ad. You will note the toolbar displaying at the top of the Description pane.

Tip 1: Creating text
The most effective way of working is to compose your job ad description directly in the Editor. That way it comes out perfectly formatted first time.

If you going to paste in, remember that Jobshout wants you to enter words and spaces - no fancy formatting. The simplest way to do this is to create your text in a simple text editor like Notepad. Then just paste it in, and use the Editor toolbar to do any formatting that you need.

If you want to use Word, then please see Tip 4 below.

Tip 2: Paragraph spacing
When you are preparing your ad copy, don't use double carriage returns between paragraphs - you will only have to spend time later taking one of them out!

People who use Word often use double carriage returns as a matter of habit to put space between paragraphs. The Editor, by contrast, like all web editors or page makeup programmes such as Quark and InDesign, treats each carriage return as a paragraph break and puts in space accordingly.

Tip 3: Do your formatting in Jobshout
Don't put in bullet points or indent text.

If you want bullet points, just create your list as plain text. Then highlight your list and use the Editor's Unordered List tool (it's the icon with the bullet points) to turn it into a bullet-pointed list.

Likewise, if you want to indent text, use the Indent tool (the icon is pretty obvious, and tool tips show if you mouse over an icon and stop for a couple of seconds). Don't use tabs or spaces, which do not give a great result.

Tip 4: Pasting from Word
If you are going to paste in text from Word, then you are best using the Paste from Word tool (it's the icon with the 'W'). Hitting this button opens up a separate window where you paste you text and then hit the Insert button at the bottom.

Tip 5: Adding images
The Editor has an Insert/edit Image tool (it's the little tree icon next to the anchor), but to use it your image will need to be on the web already.

Simply paste in the URL of the image (you'll need "http:// "), reduce the size if you need to by entering new dimensions in pixels, and specify the alignment (under the Appearance tab), and hit the Insert button.

Alternatively, if your Jobshout template contains images, then you can use the "attach main image" link at the bottom of the page, which also lets you upload an image to Jobshout.
