Agency Workers Bill

The Agency Worker’s Bill is being voted on this Friday (22nd Feb 2008) in Parliament and it seems to be raising a bit of a stir in the recruitment world (both online and off-line). I don’t claim to be an expert in employment law or employee rights (technology is my speciality), but it seems fairly obvious there is an issue up for debate here.

The trade unions seem to be pushing hard for the bill to be pushed through, the Recruitment & Employment Confederation are encouraging members to lobby local MPs to fight the industry’s corner, and now Nathan Mayatt, of Workstation and Jobshout has launched a petition.

I spoke to Nathan about the bill and his opposition to try and ascertain an understanding of how this bill will impact on the UK’s temporary work force. The interview is available in the box to the right, or you can listen while you continue to browse using the born Audio Player.

Nathan makes some interesting points and I’m sure many of you will have views for or against the bill. Those who fall into the against category are invited to complete Jobshout’s petition.
