The Agency Workers Bill 2008, which is set to go before the House of Commons tomorrow (February 22nd), may have a detrimental effect on the recruitment industry, it has been claimed.
This comes from Nathan Mayatt, managing director of Jobshout, an online content management system. Mr Mayatt claims that the bill is too simplistic and based on false assumptions, onrec.com reports.
Recruitment would be driven to large recruitment agencies, meaning that smaller agencies would not be able to survive under the new legislation, he stated
Meanwhile, businesses and jobhunters would suffer as they require flexibility in managing fluctuations in business and individual lifestyles.
"[The bill] gives temporary staff (potentially both Payee and Ltd Company contractors) equal rights as permanent staff including full sick and holiday pay - it's just not sustainable," Mr Mayatt told onrec.com.
Jobshout has released a petition against the bill, which the Trades Union Congress has applauded, stating that it would put an end to agency worker abuse.
